As Darla made her way to the coffee and pastry truck, it was obvious that Tamara was handling things just fine on her own. Nonetheless, Darla still climbed into the back of the truck and took over the register so Tamara could focus on getting the drink and snack orders out quickly. Soon, the small crowd all had their orders. The customers dispersed shortly after the last drink was passed out the window, and Darla was glad. She knew Tamera was ready for a break.

“Has it been busy all afternoon?” Darla asked.

“We’ve had a few spurts of people coming by,” Tamara said. “Nothing I couldn’t handle. I think people are starting to get bored. Everyone was expecting the eggs to hatch by now. I guess the scientists should have had a larger window of time for their estimation so people wouldn’t be so frustrated.”

“That probably would have been wise,” Darla said. “But hindsight is twenty-twenty, as they say. Honestly though, I’m a little concerned that the eggs aren’t going to hatch at all. I hope nothing is wrong with them.”

“I don’t think that’s going to be a problem,” Tamara said. “Not sure why. A gut feeling, I guess." Tamara's face then lit up and she gasped. "Oh! By the way, we had someone put in an application for a temp position with the food trucks. It came in online, so I haven’t had time to read through it or anything.”

“Really?” Darla questioned. “Wow—that’s great. I didn’t expect such a quick response on that.”

“Yeah. The subject line said ‘summer position’ or something like that,” Tamara explained. “I guess whoever it is isn’t looking to remain on for long, but it’s still good to know that our ad is being seen.”

“Yes, that’s a good thing,” Darla said. “Hopefully we’ll get more responses than just one. I’d love to get all three food trucks up and running soon, and we’re going to need more manpower if we’re going to do that.”

“So exciting,” Tamara said, grinning. Her eyes suddenly lit up, and she gave Darla a nudge. “Yeah, we'll take about it more later. Your man is here."

While Darla would never have referred to him as her man, she knew exactly who Tamara was referring to and whipped her head around to see Caleb making his way over. “Knock it off,” she jokingly warned Tamara before Darla stepped out of the food truck to go greet Caleb.

“Hey, Caleb!” she exclaimed. “I didn’t expect to see you out at this thing.”

“Well, I heard my favorite coffee truck was catering the watch party, so I thought I’d swing by and check it out,” he said with a polite smile. His smile quickly changed to that of concern, though. “I heard that the eggs haven’t hatched yet. A lot of people at my work are watching online, and everyone’s talking like they’re not going to hatch. I thought I’d come and see what’s going on. Have you heard anything?”

“I’m pretty sure they just estimated incorrectly,” Darla said with confidence, not wanting to add to the worry everyone was feeling.
